What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a broad area of human activity, encompassing a large number of events, activities and genres. It involves the creation and consumption of a variety of forms of art, culture, and communication. It can be consumed by individual consumers, groups of people or whole societies. It can range from one-to-one private entertainment (for example, a film or video game) to mass entertainment such as a public concert or sporting event.

The word comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which combines the prefix inter meaning inside and the suffix ten, from the Indo-European root ten. It originally meant to “hold inside.” The word has since come to mean something that keeps people inside and occupied, such as a novel or movie.
