What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a broad category of recreational activities and games. It can include many forms of recreation such as theater, sports, acoustical music and reading. Often entertainment is related to a theme, such as a novel or a play, and has a tendency to cross over different media. Many popular forms of entertainment have been used for centuries, demonstrating the enduring appeal of certain themes and images. The word comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, derived from the Indo-European root ten, meaning to hold inside. The implication is that what may be entertaining for one group or individual can be perceived as work or cruelty by another.
