Results Analysis - by André de Vries

Fight of the month goes to Gerald Nekhubvi who travelled to Namibia to win the WBO Africa welterweight title from Ali Nuumbembe in his backyard. Nekhubvi has been quiet on the home front, and perhaps this is the high-profile win he needs to move into the spotlight. Sipho Taliwe burst the Warren Joubert bubble with a comprehensive win to retain the South African junior lightweight title, and Sabelo Jubatha hammered Macel Japhta to defeat inside two rounds. Japhta protested that the stoppage was premature, but it looked like he was on a hiding to nothing after staggering Jubatha at the end of the first round with a solid left. Macbute Sinyabi looked somewhat fragile in retaining the National junior featherweight title with a 6th-round stoppage of Themba Lesiba. I hope I’m wrong in this assessment because Sinyabi is one of the most exciting fighters to emerge on the local scene for a while.
