Don’t blame Hekkie Budler for the shocking decision awarding him the IBO
junior flyweight title. Budler did everything that was asked of him, and that
was to fight his heart out for twelve rounds. This he did with an admirable
display of guts and determination. What was Budler supposed to do when the
judges came up with one of the worst decisions seen locally for a long time?
Give the title back? He will know that he will never be given a victory like this
again, and it’s up to him to learn from this experience because from now on
it’s hard fights only, as title defences should be.

Ruben Groenewald disappointed in his challenge against Thabiso Mchunu for
the South African and WBA Pan African junior heavyweight titles. As a former
WBU middleweight champion, he was expected to hang in there and give the
relatively inexperienced champion a run for his money. The fight was stopped in
the fourth round with Groenewald clearly showing signs of distress.

In one of the best wins by a local fighter overseas, Kaizer Mabuza stopped Kendall Holt of the USA at the end of the sixth round in an IBF junior welterweight title elimination contest.
