Results Analysis June 2009 - by André de Vries

Nkosinathi Joyi proved he is world class when he beat the highly rated former IBF mini flyweight champion Florante Condes in an IBF elimination contest in East London. If the truth be told, Joyi hammered Condes for all twelve rounds, while current IBF champion Raul Garcia of Mexico could only beat Condes by split decision. On this performance, Joyi must have a better than even chance of winning the title should a fight with Garcia become a reality. At the other end of the scale, highly regarded Silence Mabuza was dropped in the twelfth round of
his losing effort against the slick USAbased Colombian Jonnhy Perez in yet
another IBF elimination contest, this time at the bantamweight limit. Silence appeared too easy to hit, but give Perez his due: he is one of the better imports to grace our rings in a long, long time. Tshepo Mashego gained sweet revenge over Vincent Vuma in their third meeting to regain the South African junior middleweight title. Mashego, who boasts a 17 – 9 (10) record is better than his record suggests, and at nearly thirty one years of age will be looking to capitalize
on this win. Vuma, at age thirty three will be left pondering his future.
