Emperors Palace undercard

The bout between Tommy Oosthuizen and Jared Lovett did not produce the fireworks expected. Oosthuizen won the recently created “IBO light heavyweight
youth title” when two judges made him the winner by 97-93 and 100-91 and the
third handed in a way out score of 96-95 for Lovett. The southpaw Oosthuizen was never in trouble and used his reach and boxing skills to outbox Lovett.

Full Distance for Hekkie Budler

In an entertaining junior flyweight bout Hekkie Budler knocked down Khanyakude Mukansi early in the fight, but had to settle for a points win over eight rounds. The scores were 77-73 on two cards and 78-73 on the third card. In the opening bout at lightweight, Thomson Mokwana beat Thulani Mbata 40-35 on each of the scorecards.

Vetyeka wins vacant IBO bantamweight belt

Even though he faded in the later rounds Simphiwe Vetyeka produced a good all round performance to win the vacant IBO bantamweight belt by beating Eric Barcelona on points. The scores were 118-110, 117-111 and 118-114.

Vetyeka, 53.46 kg, eased off at times but he picked up the pace when he needed to, taking his record to 21-1, with 12 stoppages. Barcelona, 53.38 kg from the Philippines dropped to 48-1-4; 12 on his third visit to South Africa.
