Since the August/September issue of African Ring we have witnessed some great fights locally and internationally with sell out crowds in Las Vegas and Emperors Palace.
In Las Vegas Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment put on the Sergio Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr blockbuster and just down the road Oscar De la Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions had a sell-out crowd to watch Saul Alvarez against Josesito Lopez all on the same night.
Locally we had the Golden Gloves Nashua Super Eight semifinals at Emperors Palace with a capacity crowd.
We are now looking forward to the Super Eight final, which will take place on November 10 at Emperors Palace together with the top liner between Tommy Oosthuizen and Fulgencio Zuniga, with Tommy defending his IBO super middleweight belt for the sixth time.
In the Super Eight final Thabiso Mchunu faces Danie Oosthuizen with the African Boxing Union cruiserweight title also at stake.
Adding value to this exciting bill will be Gideon Buthelezi fighting for the IBO junior bantamweight belt and Ryno Liebenberg defending his IBO All Africa light heavyweight title.
Also coming up on December 3, Jeff Ellis in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions presents his Christmas Cracker Box and Dine evening featuring former IBF junior lightweight champion Malcolm Klassen together some exiting match-ups on an eight bout card.
In closing I must pay tribute to my good friend Corrie Sanders a two-time world heavyweight champion, who was tragically shot dead recently.
He was possibly the best heavyweight of all time to come out of South Africa and in the same league as the great Gerrie Coetzee.
I will miss the last eight years when we shared a room together as the boxing team for the Supersport golf shootouts.
My condolences to your children and family from myself and the whole boxing community.
Rest in peace champ.
