Thinus Strydom Promotions

I doubt if there is anyone that has been involved in boxing that has not heard of Thinus Strydom.

Apart from his legendary association with the likes of Gerrie Coetzee, Kallie Cnoetze, Dingaan Thobela, Fransie Botha and a host of other great personalities in boxing and other sports, he is also a very astute business man and entrepreneur.

Sponsorships for this man is not just about "exposure", it is about growing the sport and the brand, by using the sport as a platform for other related marketing opportunities, at the same time.

Despite the fact that he has been away from the sport that is closest to his heart for a number of years, he is now back with a knockout punch, and once again the concept is based on innovative thinking "out of the box", or should that be "ring"?

It is not unusual to see two world title fights on a bill, but when one is a women's world title, followed by a men's world title, that is different, to say the least.

Thinus says "For the past few years I have been asked by many sponsors to stage fights. I have turned nearly all of them down simply because I felt that they were the wrong fit for the sport and because I knew that one off's don't achieve anything for either the sponsor or the sport.

Today I believe that I have found the ideal partnership with Chesa Nyama and World Stage Promotions. For the next 3 years this up and coming, dynamic food chain will be sponsoring three top quality fights a year.

On June 29 at Graceland Casino, Secunda, the partnership will begin with a WBF womens' world feather weight title, between Shannon O'Connel of Australia and Gabisile Tshabalala of South Africa, headed by the clash between South Africa's Tshifiwe Munyai and Arturo Santos Reyes from Mexico for the vacant WBF junior feather weight belt.
