Results Analysis: March - May 2012 - by André de Vries

Tommy Oosthuizen seemed to be his old self when he stopped Serge Yannick in six rounds to retain the IBO super middleweight title. He showed some of the aggression that has been missing in recent performances, and perhaps he has discovered the magic ingredient that made him so exciting early in his career. Long may it continue.

Third time lucky for Kaizer Mabuza who won the IBO junior welter title from Steven Wills of Australia. This was an easier fight for Mabuza after disappointments against Zab Judah and Chris van Heerden, Interesting to note that all Mabuza’s title challenges have been against southpaws.

IBF mini flyweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi surprised all and sundry with an easy win against mandatory challenger Katsunari Takayama of Japan. Their first fight ended controversially when the Japanese suffered a cut after an accidental clash of heads. Joyi has a large frame for a mini flyweight, and I wonder how long he will be able to make the weight. He is 29 years old, and has maintained his weight since his professional debut back in April 2002.
