Results Analysis - by Andre de Vries

Someone once told me that every good old fighter always has one or two good fights left in him, and Fransie Botha proved that to devastating effect when he survived Flo Simba’s early onslaught to stop him in six rounds in what was meant to be Simba’s coming-of-age party. Suddenly, Simba looked too small for the heavyweight division where the only small heavyweight to dominate in recent years was Mike Tyson, and obviously any comparison between Tyson and Simba now looks ridiculous.

Tommy Oosthuizen looked very ordinary in squeezing a narrow points win over the veteran William Gare in defence of his IBO super middleweight title. Like so many others in our boxing history, Tommy has looks like a million bucks against inferior opposition, but seems to struggle as the level of opposition increases.

KwaZulu Natal now has two national champions in heavyweight Wiseman Dlomo, and middleweight Christopher Buthelezi. Trick question: when was the last time KwaZulu Natal had two national champions at the same time, and who were they?
