Peter Leopaeng wrote an interesting article, his view on the cancellation of the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight (see story). My personal choice on this one is Mayweather to beat Pacquiao on points - should the fight eventually happen.

Back home on the 27 February at Emperors Palace we have a fight that has captured the imagination of the fans. Hekkie Budler gets the chance of a lifetime when he squares up to Juanito Rubillar of the Philippines for the vacant IBO World junior flyweight title. At age 32, the highly experienced Filipino is no stranger to championship boxing. Hekkie on the other hand is 11 years younger and will be like a tiger come fight night. This little fighting machine has everything to gain and I feel that he will rise to the occasion. Under-card action sees local heavyweight sensation Flo Simba look to improve his record to 3-0 when he faces seasoned heavyweight contender Stephen Castle (5-1-2) in the most expensive 4-round bout in SA ring history, and I’d have to say that barring a huge upset, Simba figures to score his third knockout victory in as many contests.

In an interview with my friend and college Terry Pettifer you get to read my thoughts on the best fighter I fought.

At this point in time we have not heard when or where the annual Boxing Awards will be held. However I will be very surprised if Thomas Oosthuizen does not pick up an award for his outstanding achievements in 2009. Winning two IBO Youth Titles and demolishing the capable Tshepang Mohale - Thomas is without a doubt a future star.

After hearing of the sad news of the recent passing of one the sons from the south Albert Scott (see story); just before going to press the boxing world was shocked to hear of the death of one of one of our most promising fighters the undefeated IBO and WBF lightweight champion Mlungisi Dlamini, 27, who was killed in a motor
accident near Harrismith in Kzn on Friday, January 29.
