The months of August and September will always be the most memorable months of my life as on August 30 I celebrated my fiftieth birthday with friends and family at Emperors palace.

Also 25 years ago almost to the day, on September 27, 1986 at the Sun City Super Bowl I knocked out Alfredo Layne to win the WBA junior lightweight title. Five years later on September 13, 1991 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California I got sweet revenge after my drawn match in March with Tony Lopez for IBF crown.
The sweetness of the win was reflected in the scorecards: Judge Mike Glienna 116-112, judge Harry Davis 117-111 and judge Fritz Werner 115-113. This was my goodbye to world championship boxing.

These memories we relived as the dream team of 20 years ago, Rodney Berman, Gary Pretorius, Shona MacTaggert , Harold Volbrecht and my self celebrated the moments at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi after Tommy Oosthuizen’s successful defence of his IBO super middleweight belt against Aaron Pryor Jr, a formidable opponent.

Tommy and I shared the legendary trainer Harold Volbrecht and the Golden Gloves team, 20 years apart and I must say thank you to the team and the wonderful memories.

A warm welcome to the new chairman of Boxing South Africa Ngconde Balfour and his fellow board members Peter Ngtane, Ntambi Ravele, Dumile Mateza, Nontsantasa Lebaka, Thabani Khumalo, Mandla Ntlanganiso and the chief
executive office Moffat Qithi.
