The FIFA soccer world cup tournament was an amazing success and with the event now come and gone, sport mad South Africans looked forward to the Tri-Nations rugby tournament, but unfortunately it was rather disappointing as the “Bokke” lost four games in a row.

The mighty All Blacks came out on top and it was great to see our “Captain
Courageous” John Smit earn his 100th test cap and then only a week later my good friend Victor Matfield also made it 100 when we restored some pride by beating the Australians.

On the boxing front IBO welterweight champion Lovemore Ndou the true professional as always, arrived at the recent Emperors Palace press conference immaculately turned out in a three-piece suit for his upcoming fight against Bongani Mwelase.

Golden Gloves Promoter Rodney Berman has set up an exciting bill, “Crunch Time!” at Emperors Palace for Saturday, September 18 in what could be the highlight of the boxing year featuring Mwelase and Ndou in the main bout and other exciting talent like Flo Simba, Johnny Muller and Jason Bedeman.

Also coming up on November 6 at Emperors Palace will be the highly anticipated grudge match between Isaac Chilemba of Malawi who will be defending his IBO super middleweight belt against the dangerous left-hander Tommy Oosthuizen.
African Ring would also like to welcome all the recently appointed members to Boxing SA and look forward to their valued input into boxing.

A big thank you to Bob Yearham, Nileen and Julie of Emperors Palace for surprising me with a massive chocolate cake for my 49th birthday on August 30.

Happy reading!
